Coleen Emmenis grew up in the world of theatre and was fortunate to be exposed to numerous artistic influences and various artists, which have been depicted in her ever changing art pieces.
Her academic studies over the years have directed her artistic energy into experimenting with various medium, techniques and themes.
Coleen has worked in professional theatre, from assistant stage managing to directing. This came in handy when following a career in teaching and lecturing art. Her range of teaching was from pre- school to post graduate students, later moving into senior lecture and involved in management at the College of Cape Town art department.
Coleen has taken part in over 40 national and international exhibitions and has sold a vast amount of work over this period.
Her work for her Master’s degree earned her the chancellor’s award as best masters student 2006 and was selected to be exhibited at the AVA Gallery in Cape Town.
Since leaving Cape Town, Coleen has joined forces with Annalie Theunissen of Art-i-Kapa, and been involved with the training of leadership programs in craft production and project managing skills programs for the Overberg region.
Coleen lives in Baardskeerdersbos, an ideal place to work as an artist. At present she is facilitating Agricultural learnerships for Agri Seta and Haygrove Heaven berry farm and teaching English and Tourism for adult education. A new adventure is running a sewing factory in Gansbaai.
She also serves on the National Arts Council board.
She muses, “As for art I fit it in between all the rest. The rest is history.”
